ZBD is currently recruiting for the following positions:

R & D Test Scientist
ZBD is a leader in the design and supply of electronic shelf edge labels and associated software solutions for the global retail industry. It is a pioneering company with its own R & D, full IPR and scalable manufacturing processes and specialises in the design and supply of bistable liquid crystal displays.

The company is looking for a physics or Electronics Engineering graduate to join the Research & Development team to help deliver exciting new display modes and product improvements. The candidate must be highly motivated with the ability to work in a dynamic environment. Employees within the R & D team at ZBD will be expected to work closely with one another and interact with the Product Manufacturing and Engineering teams on a diverse range of projects. Training and guidance will be given, but the successful candidate will be expected to construct liquid crystal devices, test their electro-optic behaviour, interpret the data and design improved electrical addressing waveforms.

This specific role will involve the experimental development of LCD addressing techniques, as well as the investigation and development of novel modes for future performance enhancements of ZBD for a variety of applications. The company has an extensive IP portfolio to be exploited and is always open to new ideas.

The successful candidate will work regularly with the Production team, where the ability to adhere to deadlines and work well under pressure is essential.

Qualifications and experience

• 1st or 2.1 degree in Physics or Electronic Engineering
• Ability to conduct experiments on the electro-optics of optoelectronic devices
• Good working knowledge of optics (in particular liquid crystal device physics) and optical microscopy preferable
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word an advantage

This position is offered as a 6 month contract initially with a possibility of the role becoming permanent. The role will be based at our office in Malvern, Worcestershire.

Test Engineer
ZBD is a leader in the design and supply of electronic shelf edge labels and associated software solutions for the global retail industry. It is a pioneering company with its own R&D, full IPR and scalable manufacturing processes and specialises in the design and supply of bistable liquid crystal displays.

The company is looking for a graduate to join the engineering team to help characterise ZBD products and deliver product improvements. The candidate must be highly motivated and proactive with the ability to adhere to deadlines and work well under pressure.

This specific role will involve:

• Testing and characterisation of ZBD liquid crystal displays
• Yield analysis
• Failure analysis
• Development of improved test equipment, fixtures, software, methods and procedures
• Production support

The successful candidate will work regularly with our R&D team and with engineering and manufacturing staff in the UK and internationally. The role will necessarily involve a reasonable amount of travel both within the UK and abroad.

The successful candidate will have:

• Degree level qualification
• Experience of technology transfer and volume production
• Good of problem solving skills
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and with databases would be an advantage

This is a full time role and will be based at our office in Malvern, Worcestershire.
